Unpaid Sick Days

In early 2010 I partnered with Greater Boston Legal Services and the Massachusetts Paid Leave Coalition to work on their legislaive paid sick days campaign.

The Coalition is working to enact "An Act Establishing Paid Sick Days," which would ensure that all Massachusetts workers could earn a minimum of seven paid sick days annually to take care of their own health needs and those of family members.

Currently, 1.4 million workers in Massachusetts do not have a single paid sick day for themselves. It is a far greater number for workers with no paid sick days to care for a child or parent. This legislation would have a significant impact on women, who are often still the primary care takers of their families. The legislation would have a dramatic effect on low wage workers, only 20% of whom have paid sick days.
