Quarantined on our stoop, my daughter Lola watches her friends on bikes ride by. Yesterday she was allowed to pass a soccer ball with the other kids. Today news of friends with the virus coupled with a new tightness in my lungs prompted me to tighten the rules. Lola is not happy.
My daughter and I were in her room when we heard a flute that stopped us in our tracks. Our neighbor was playing below in an impromptu backyard concert. We opened the window and let the music flood in. Lola spent a good half hour dancing on the windowsill.
My 8 month old son doesn't realize that we no longer need to wake up early in the morning. Here he asks for milk while the rest of the family sleeps.
After two weeks of isolation I allowed my daughter to play social distance soccer with her best friends on the block.

Lola and best friend Omar hug themselves to keep from hugging each other. Under ordinary circumstances the kids on our block free flow in and out of each other's apartments.
